Stock WS6 Ram air

How efficient is this setup? My friend was telling me that the WS6 ram air is completely fake and isn't profitable at all

I agreed a little bit because the ports through the scoop aren't exactly in great locations for ramming air... L0L but works good for keeping water out.

Anyway, whats a good way to make the ram air more efficient? Is it worth it to change the air filter? Port out the holes? Anything like that?

I think it's the best setup you can have. Not because I have one, just because it's almost a straight shot. If you were to get a cai, I don't think it would be as good as a ram air setup. I use a K&N but it seems like alot of people don't like it because of it's fitting issues. My works great and haven't bought a filter for over 6 years now. It does free up some power that you won't notice. Of course I don't have test to prove none of this.

Re: Stock WS6 Ram air

-Use a K&N
-cut out the grid on the top of the airbox cover
-cut back (street car) or totally remove (track only) the rain baffles from the scoop
-replace the bellows between the MAF and the TB with a $6 Fernco sewer coupling.

It can be demonstrated that the "velocity head" developed at 100MPH has the potential to increase pressure in the airbox by about 1%, and that would mean 1% more power. So, you might make 3HP on a stocker at 100MPH. But remember, its also a "cold air" intake, since you aren't pulling in hot air off the pavement. Since velocity head is proportional to the square of the vehicle's speed, if you are only going 50MHP, the gains become insignificant. On the other hand, at 141MPH, the HP gains will be doubled.

as far as the dyno goes you prob wont see any HP gains and if you do they will be minor over a aftermarket CAI. The real power comes when you are moving and the air is actually being forced into the air box. but it is a GREAT setup and looks mean to. tell your friend his is STUPID

Exactly what Fred said... it's basically the best CAI you can get... Do the 4 mods that he listed and you have an animal... I've got mine completely gutted, and if I remove the air filter (K&N of course) and close the hood, I can see THROUGH the Hood, through the MAF to the TB blades... Can't get much better than that...

Do you rember what size coupling you used? I looked at Home Depot but could not find one that would work.

3" x 3" x 3" Fernco Sewer Line Coupler. Heat it in boiling water for about a minute to soften it, then install. Works great. I've got it on my car, and actually use a cut-down one to connect the Airbox to my Z06 MAF.

Re: Stock WS6 Ram air

Its called a 3" x 3", but the actual inside diameter is closer to 85mm (3.3"). The Fernco part # is 1056-33.
