Stock Timming Chain?

What are the part numbers for the timming chain parts for a 94 LT1 Camaro?

Which parts do you think i should replace? I am installing an electric water pump this summer and figure if it's not too much i might put a new chaing and maybe gears in there.

Do you think i should replace it or will it still be good at 130,000 miles? What will i need to replace? Just the chain or the gears too? Or should i just wait and see what i need when i take it off.

with that type of mileage your chain is pretty much ready to be retired, since you are going to run an electric h2o pump, get a cloyes chain and call it good, you will regret reusing an old chain....

You can find part numbers on my part numbers page.

With your miles, change the whole set. Even though you are going with an electric pump you can't use a Cloyes set without doing the whole vented opti swap.

I do have an extra one that came on a shortblock i bought off someone....the block had thrown a rod--I think at relatively low miles, but it had sat out a while i believe.....how would you go about checking if it's any good.....not that i am going to use it, but just so i know.

IMO, you don't check it. You throw it away.

Re: Stock Timming Chain?

cheapest place i find them at is GM parts direct and it's about 75bucks. for everything.....crank gear, cam gear, chain. Or will the two gears be okay to use--I assume they wear also....in which case 70 some bucks isn't too cheap IMO--expecially for what you are getting.

OR you could just a regular sbc timing chain. Why pay all that money when you dont have too.

It may be the same chain as an SBC, but he can't use an SBC cam gear.

I already recommended changing the whole set. It's cheap, considering the consequences when it fails. The gears will have wear. Throwing a new chain on worn gears is not my idea of doing it right.

Re: Stock Timming Chain?

ive got a stocker with 40k miles for 10 bucks if youre intereted.

If you are gonna do a cam swap anytime soon, I would definately convert. You can sell the old opti for some decent cash and it will only hit you a little bit.

True that.

well first off i have a chain with low miles as stated in my earlier posts. Second this opti developed a high miss and would hate to sell to someone. Third...i do plan on doing a cam swap soon....but even if i did, it wouldn't be anything to large...since it's got 130,000 miles-so it's not worth switching right now.

They just had to make splines in that gear didn't they

Yea about that Lunati kit........went up $100 in summit from their last magazine....and i was considering it, since it uses a billet gear...but am not paying 200 for a set, they can keep that junk for 200 bucks. A friend of mine could make a billet gear for me......that is if i supply the billet.
