stock timing chain capability

I'm building a 355ci LT1 for forced induction. Max RPM's will be set somewhere between 6000-6500 and I'm looking to make 600rwhp or more. I just replaced my timing chain and water pump when I did a cam install about 20,000 mi ago.

What are the disadvantages of running a stock-style timing chain/gear and will my newer stock water pump work? Will this much power cause the chain to fail?

I've put a lot of money in the bottom end and my projected total project costs are soaring above $12,000 so I need to start cutting costs where upgrades are not required.

Thanks,
Michael

You've spent alot of money up to this point doing things the right way, might as well not get cheap at the last minute and take the risk.

The stock chain is real junk In my opinion and experiences, it stretches like crazy even with way less power than you plan on putting down.....with a combo of parts like it sounds like your putting together, IMO, it wouldn't be wise to skimp at this point and run a stock type timing chain set.....If your gonna keep your stock type water pump(as I did), you can run the LT4 Extreme Duty roller chain kit, it's a very high quality piece and will easily handle your projected power output.....or if by chance, you want to switch to running an electric water pump, you can then use a (much less expensive than the $245 LT4 Extreme timing chain kit) regular old style small block chevy aftermarket high quality roller chain kit...good luck with it....Joe

From: Oklahoma where trees are made of wood.
Make sure that the set you buy (for the Elec waterpump set-up) is designed for the cam you plan on using (i.e. factory roller block, etc.)
