Stock rebuilds?

My plans require no high RPM rev range. I planned on replacing the rings and bearings and a high volume oil pump. I want to use all high grade fasteners so I can see 6200 RPM at the most. Think I can reuse the stock crank, rods, and pistons? I'm going to have the block honed and and cleaned. Never redone the bottom end of a motor before. What all should I have done and normally what does it cost at a good shop for the basics?

Re: Stock rebuilds?

you know thats essentially what i did and it costed me more than first expected, here's what i did.

had new cam bearings installed and cam installed (xe 230/236) $50?
arp rod bolts and recondition caps $200
main and rod bearings $50
rings $100 if i remember right.....they are metrics so they're more than most
gasket kit $150
elec water pump $115
timing set $75
cam $270
valve job $175
vavle springs and assembly $160-200?
headers $300

that's pretty much the basics, for what i spent it's almost worth AT LEAST changing the pistons to a speed pro forged press fit. but with the money spent redoing the rods it's almost worth buying new rods as well..

it's up to you but in hindsight i'd replace the rods/pistons.

imo
mike

Ya I heard the pistons are a little heavy though...... and for what it costs to recondition the rods....we might as well buy new ones..... wtf. LOL

Re: Stock rebuilds?

get the eagle sir rods - they come with the arp rod bolts and wont be much more than the cost of equivalent bolts and the cost of reconditioning the stock rods.
