Stock oil guage and pressure?

How accurrate is the stock oil pressure guage. I just noticed today when i started it up it was at about 20 psi. Is this normal. Im using i think 5w-30 fully synthetic mobil 1 and it was about 80 degrees out today.

Re: Stock oil guage and pressure?

10psi for every 1k rpm is minimum pressure. This from the engine spec.

So, that means your good.

As far as accuracy, I've noticed when I replaced my stock oil pressure sender with a aftermarket one, it was much more responsive. However, the PSI reading was the same as stock, the stock guage is accurate enough. As long as your not reading 0 or pegged out, you should be getting a ballpark reading.

What engine spec is that? That's really just a general rule of thumb that has been passed down for generations. However, it does assure that you would have adequate oil pressure.

Actual LT1 factory service manual minimums are
6psi at idle

24 at 4000

LT1 POWR: you should observe what your hot idle numbers are. Cold engine temps will always indicate higher oil pressure readings. I would say that 20 at cold startup is not a lot of pressure (if your sensor and gauge are accurate).
