stock new chain with 306 install....???

Ok well..how bad of an idea is it if i used a new stock chain(im going to keep my gears..since the motors only got 36k original miles on it) on my car when i put the CC306 in. Im really tight on money at the moment and im just trying to get everything together. Im using the 26918's magnum NSA 1.6's hardend pushrods..and ill also be spraying a 100 shot(possibly 150 on the dyno) ..will this chain DEF. break on me? give me some ideas here people.

I think the timing gears are just as prone to wear as the chain; are you saying your gears only have 36K miles and the chain has more miles?

no they both have 36k miles on them. but i figured the chain would be the first to wear.

chain streches, gears wear, they wear in together, they should be replaced together

I think the gears would be easy to inspect for possible wear; if they look marginal I'd replace them; I remember that they didn't cost much.

Re: stock new chain with 306 install....???

I changed the chain only. In a perfect world I would love to change all in real world I save where I can. The gears are less likely to be a problem IMO compared to chain. The chain alone as I recall is ~$20 so cheap to do only that while it is in hands.

My friend didn't even change his chain, when he built his. He used 306 and with turbo's developed 550RWHP so we all have different ideas on what is required. He is a machinist and says the chain will outlast many other components.

Good luck

Stock new chain went well past 7k rpm in my last motor with a cc305 cam. I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as it doesn't have alot of wear on it.
