Re: Stock LT1 Horsepower?

on any stock or mild bolt on auto, go with 3.42 gears. those seem to provide the best off the line grunt and higher speed pull. 3.73's are nice, but a bit steep for a mild bolt on car, in an auto anyway.

How much faster in the 1/4 are the 96 WS6's then the 94 GT's? Both M6's assuming good drivers.

They have 3.42's apposed to 2.73 and rated with 20 more hp because of dual cats and ram air baby!! haha

It's called All-Data. It's just a computer program that lists specs and how two's. It's like Chiltons or Haynes, only on a disk

But why do you need a computer program to tell you something like factory rated HP? I mean, isnt that sorta common knowledge? I could understand using it to guide you thru rebuilding your motor, but rated HP? It was just funny to me I guess, thats all...

The '96 SS with standard exhaust came as 305hp. If you ordered the optional 20TL exhaust, it was then bumped up to 315hp.

Re: Stock LT1 Horsepower?

Can you guys suggest a good brand and place to buy 3.42 or 3.73 gears? If I change the gears is there anything else I would have to replace or change?

You can go Motive gears to keep the "WHINE" down. Aftermarket rears can whine if not set up correct and some manufactures gears whine a bit more. You will also need something to recalibrate your PCM if you don't want your speedo to read off. I would do a TA Rear Girdle while your at it. It will strengthen the rear end. Both of these can be purchased here:

Ask for Bob tell him Adam Carper sent you.
