Stock LT1 Horsepower?

My '95 Z28 automatic seems alot faster than the Chevy specs say. Did GM fudge on the LT1 horsepower specs? How much is a stock Z with a automatic transmission suppose to have at the rear wheels?

Re: Stock LT1 Horsepower?

Based on Chevy's 285hp claim, hp at the wheels should be around 245-250hp give or take...

How about a 96 M6 with a SLP LM Catback, 160 Thermostat, and a OBD1 Conversion?

Re: Stock LT1 Horsepower?

95's were 275 hp. Also, I believe 16-18% is the typical drivetrain loss for the auto. Hence 275*.84= 231

I recall hearing most people stock A4 dyno around 240ish.

240hp seems pretty low. What's the easiest mods I can do to bump that up to around 280-300?

Oh boy..... there is a search feature on this forum, I'm sure that is like the 10000000000th time someone has asked that. It usually pleases the old timers if you do a search before you ask a question, and 9 times out of 10 you will answer it yourself....

That being said :-P

CAI is usually suggested as the first thing, followed by full exhaust if you've got the money. That combined with a custom tune (pcmsforless, madz28, your own) should get you close to there.

For the US, I believe it was all single cat except I think there was something that California emissions called for two cats so they got the 285hp version... I believe Canada also had the two cats version.

Re: Stock LT1 Horsepower?

I was thinking about changing my gears. I have the stock 2.73 gears at the moment and am thinking about going to 3.73's or 4.10's. Which do you guys suggest if I keep the car pretty much stock? Are 4.10's to much?

Re: Stock LT1 Horsepower?

I have a computer program (lists specs, info, how to's etc) that says for a 96 Camaro Z28, it's HP rating was 305. Which means that at the rear wheels it probably puts down 260 - 265 Horsepower.

Re: Stock LT1 Horsepower?

The Camaro Z28 with the SS package is rated at 305hp/335tq.... you are correct. This is NOT a normal Z28 however.

No no... my program may be off. But I know is said Z28, not SS. The SS model was not listed. It had for 1996 Camaro, either V6, or Z28.

Now like I said... my program might be wrong. I've read many different ratings for the 1996 Camaro's. I've seen the SS model been rated as high as 315 horsepower. Which seems just out of the question.

So really I'm agree with you. I think the SS is rated at 305, not the Z28.
