Stock Lt1 deck height?

Stock Lt1 deck height?

trying to order pistons to get as low of compression as I can, wondering what the stock deck height is? Is it like -.1? i dont want zero deck, but just trying to figure out what the deck height is

Most say it is .025". I measured mine when I was going to have the block decked and it varied between .024" and .027. When I got the block back and assembled the engine, the deck height was .011" to .012". There must have been some non-flat decks or the decks were out of parallel with the crank.

kk, thats what i was wondering. I am looking at just doing a stock rebuild with a balanced rotating assembly using stock crank, forged rods, forged dish pistons, and not having the deck or anything touched, or if i do have the deck touched, i want it to be as minimal as possible

It's a good idea to at least have it decked flat. You want a good sealing surface and from the sound of things you are going FI. You don't want an uneven surface for forced induction. Is that the reason for wanting the lower compression?

sure is.
Heres my next quesiton i guess
I want to mainly do this as a DIY, and keep as many people out of it as I can.
Now, I know how to put a motor together from rods/pistons/crank, etc.
So, would it be okay to have a machine shop bore it out, and balance it, and me just put it all together, or is that not the best idea?
I would just tear the motor apart, replace the rods/pistons, get it rebalanced, and not bored, but i know the block has 160k on it and at least needs honed lol

I have seen them all over the place, being uneven I mean......Mine was out. You really want it good and flat for a good sealing surface

You need to have them check some stuff so you don't waste time.....are the bores round and square

check the line bore and cyl bores, I think it will need to be bored probly has oval shaped cyl. walls. I would get the to balance etc.

yes if you know what your doing go for it......If not I would get them to do it.

Its all simple just time consuming......check everything 4-5 times
