Just got a new LT1

I just picked up a Black 94 Z28 A4. It is in great running shape but needs some interior work.

I'll post some pics in a while.

The Mods are:

K&N Cone Filter

Hooker 1 3/4 Long Tubes with Full 3 inch Exhaust

No Cats

3.23 Axle

3000 Stall Converter

What kind of times and Rear Wheel Horsepower can I expect out of this?

Thanks,

Dan

First make sure it will hold up on the dyno and then give it a shot to see just what kind of numbers you are getting. I doubt that anyone can give you a good estimate. Stock you are looking at 230-340 RWHP. So adding headers and CAI might pick it up a bit, but, the your restrictions are on the intake and not so much on the exhaust side. Get it dynoed for a base line. And just getting a tune might add some power.

I've never seen a stock LT1 make 340 RWHP, or even BHP. But I'll assume you meant 240

The mods you listed are not so much horsepower gainers, but more horsepower free-er uppers. They just free up a little extra power that was restricted from the previous parts.

The stall and gears do not add power (the stall might multiple the torque as will the gears vs a 2.73 set), but they will make the car faster in a quarter mile.

Stock lists 275 Bhp in the sales brochures. You may pick up a few with the bolt ons. I don't drag but 1/4 miles could be mid 13s on stock parts.

Welcome to the LT1 club. I imagine it won't be long until you start to build it up.

With a VERY good launch VERY low 13s. With an average launch high 13s. With a Noob launch 14s.

Hp around 245-250.

I got alot of work to do on the car. What would make it feel very loose in the front end? I found some shock bolts loose and One header bolt was almost completely backed out and all the others were loose. The engine supposedly has 34,000 miles from a newer trans am.

It shifts at redline but feels like it doesn't need to and takes a while to get to redline. I had a 94 Formula with CAI and exhaust and this is much faster.

What other stuff would you recommend I do? Is changing the tranny fluid on an unknown mile engine recommended? My tranny cooler is just kinda sitting there, any ideas on how to mount it?

Thanks,

Dan

Motor doesn't touch tranny fluid.

Changing your tranny fluid depends upon a few things:

1.) Is it the original 4L60E and if so how many miles are on the car?

2.) If there are parts unmounted like you say and loose bolts, things may have been replaced at some point correct, just looking under your car can tell you a lot.

3.) Is there any warranty or reciepts of parts bought for the car?

4.) Simply follow the instructions in service manual on checking tranny fluid in your car.

5.) look for metal shavings in the tranny fluid, if some are apparent you're gonna need a new tranny or a rebuild.

I'd guess 250-270 rwhp and 13.6-13.9 @ 102-3

When you say loose in the front end, is it a steering related looseness or just lack of grip? Check tire wear patterns and check your bushings to make sure they aren't dried or cracked (or missing). Also, snug down your steering rack which will also give you a loose feel at the wheel along with your tie rod ends.

For the fluid, I would change everything... oil & filter, coolant, rear diff, A/T, brakes with good fluid. You can't trust if the previous owner put in the cheap stuff or had someone else put it in (Jippy Lube).

Loose feeling in the front end could be an old rag joint, especially with headers producing extra heat right next to the rubber. It can be replaced with an aluminum one for cheap (~$36): http://www.unbalancedengineering.com/Camaro/Rag_Joint/

I have one of these in my car, and it removed the slack I was experiencing in the steering.

Until we get more info, the loose condition could be anything with steering or suspension.

Stoopalini - that is a very cool rag joint. I'll save that link.

My current dilemma is that i can't find a way to tighten my drivers side header bolt. The bolt head is too close to the header tube to fit any wrench in. Any tips?

So far I noticed all the shock bolts underhood were loose. The radiator support had no screw. The Trans cooler is just sitting there. One front tire is bald and cracked. Ecm is sitting under the hood unbolted.

The battery isn't tied down.

I found all this in an hour. I tightened up the body panels on the front end.

I can't sleep till I get that header bolt in.

Thanks,

Dan

Did you try a combination wrench? Open & Box on the same wrench. I use that on my headers which are tight to the bolts. A socket will not work on mine.
