It's around 1850

If you are putting together a aftermarket assembly you can easily do much better than that, I've gone below 1600g on a 355 with good parts.

Re: Stock LT1 bobweight

What would you want to do that for?

I use that crank with lightweight parts, and BALANCE it.

Don't ever build a motor and not spend the money on balancing.

Well its a long story, I think I will just wait and do a complete forged 355 later and just get my stocker turned for the time being.

Re: Stock LT1 bobweight

The only time I wouldn't check balance is on a stock (ie non hi-po) stock rebuild for a cheap daily driver. Something I wouldn't even be working on at this point in my life (thank God). IOW, if you rebuilding a stock motor and replacing stock parts with stock parts and just want to get it running as cheap as possible, it's one thing. But a high performance build is another.

basically I will be doing this om vacation and will be very time limited and the less I spend on the car the more we will have for other things, I think I will just get mine turned and throw some new bearings in it until I can set aside more money and time for a real rebuild.

Than just replace stock parts with stock parts.

Re: Stock LT1 bobweight

Thats what I plan on as I won't have to rebalace it, I am figuring on taking it out, pulling the crank and cam, and while the crank is at the shop getting turned I can knock a new set of cam bearings in it and then reinstall the crank and slide it back in. I just had the heads off when I did the cam and the cylinders were perfect and the compresion test was right on the money so really no need to go there yet, just had an unfortunate incindent of uncovering the pick up tube and losing pressure. No knocking or any stange noises, just figure while I am upgrading the oil system I would freshen up a little.
