stock heads ported
stock heads ported
just wondering if lt1 heads would be worth porting and for the money cause i really like the le1 and le2 packages. but kinda out of my price range cause im still in school. So i was just wondering if porting the heads would be worth it?
Are you talking about porting the heads yourself? If so I'd say no don't do it. The LE packages start out with stock LT1 head castings.
Are you asking if you could do it yourself, or if you should go look for someone who charges less than ePortworks to port LT1 heads? Obvisouly porting stock LT1 heads can make huge power, but you need someone with a proven track record to do it.
i think ill end up porting the heads myself tell i can save up money to buy a set. I really think i could port a set myself. I just dont want to port and it make less power if thats possible. I just dont know how much i can port out and stuff. But what i was talking about is i was thinking about finding a local place around here that ports heads and see how much it cost if its worth the price i might do that.

I started to port my own stock heads which arent on the car right now and it is a tough long job with hand tools. You need to buy some expensive aluminum cutting bits with the correct air or electric dremel tools for them. Buying everything to port the heads, the time it takes you, and the gains (which most likely will not be close to lloyds heads) arent worth it and it will more cost effective to get them ported by lloyd. JMHO.
I port my own heads. I've done a few SBCs, but not any LT1s yet. My virgin LT1 set is all stripped, cleaned, and sitting on the bench ready to go. I just got a Makita 1/4" electric grinder that I'm really stoked about. I was running my poor little Craftsman 5.5HP compressor ragged using air tools to port with.
Always had satisfying results. One of the upcoming projects is to build a flow bench to measure those results.
