stock heads information???
stock heads information???
just wondering about some things. ive heard that they earlier year lt1 heads have a little more "meat" and can be ported more than the later years, and lt4 castings even more. also that the stock iron heads flow better than aluminum heads.
guess im just trying to get a little knowlege of lt1 heads. also what is the weight difference between iron and aluminum heads?

I don't know tyhe exact weight differences between the heads, I want to say it is 14 lbs, but I am not positive on that one.
What I do know is:
Earlier castings (374's) had more "meat" as you called it and weighed about 2 lbs more than the later catsings. They didn't flow as good as the later castings but they had more porting potential thus making them the preferred head of choice.
The cast Iron heads flowed better than all of them, but they were considerably heavier and although they could be ported they also were iron which if you had the choice between aluminum or iron you choose aluminum for various reasons including weight and heat transfer.
Here is a nice link to educate yourself a bit better on the differences between an lt1 and an lt4 http://www.grandsportregistry.com/lt1vslt4.htm

i weighed both heads without valves and springs and they were only in the low 60's together if i remember correctly, so id say no to that. maybe a few lbs tops lighter definately not over 30 a side, its not an iron bbc head going to aluminum lol
