Stock Driveshaft?

How strong is the stock LT1 driveshaft compared to an LS1 driveshaft? I know the other advantages, but I want to know how much more power can it hold?

I've heard of and seen alot of broken LS1 driveshafts. I'm still using the stock steel ds. No probs yet. Times in sig.

Isn't the LS1 driveshaft a lot bigger? But that is a valid point steel is stronger than aluminum. So, what do you guys think would be the best (between the two) for a car that is more concerned about strength (slicks)?

For an aluminum piece, the LS1 is about the weakest one you can get. The 1LE alum one is a step up, then there's the aftermarket like Denny's, LPE, PST, etc..

Slicks and drag racing? Steel would be the way to go. There's no way I'd trust an aluminum one for that. Maybe on a daily driver/weekend racer.. eh, no. Not even then. The aftermarket steel ones are close to the price of the 1LE and obviously much stronger. As a matter of fact, I got a 3" steel one made and shipped for $227 from PST about a week ago.

how much hp you planning on having? what kind of 60' times are you going to cut? if your looking for strength look into an aftermarket DS, such as Denny nitrous DS, etc....

You dont want a steel DS if your looking for strength. I just twisted mine and I was launching at maybe 4500 RPM. It twisted until it callapsed in on itself about 4 or 5 times then snapped in two pieces.
