Stock Damper Bolt

Anyone know the part number for the stock damper bolt? I was told the part number is 12557840. When I looked it up, it says it is for the gen III engines.

I wonder why the Professional Products damper lists the 12557840 as the part number to use when installing their balancer? It seems that they have made a mistake. The part number that they have listed has a 4 inch underhead length according to summit racing. Isn't the stock damper bolt approximately 2 1/4 inches? Also according to summit racing, a stock sbc damper bolt has a thread size of 7/16-20 while the GM performance parts damper bolt (12557840) has a thread size of 16mm x2.0. I don't understand. BTW, thanks for the info fellas.

9440024 and 7/16"-20 x 2¼" are correct for the LT1. Another kind of damper may require a different length bolt, but the thread and pitch should not change.

If it is the same for the 95' LT1, I have one (brand new) I bought from the dealer a little while back and realized it won't fit my thread pattern on my Eagle crank. PM and let me know if you interested.

Why wouldn't it fit? I have an Eagle crank and the stock bolt works.
Weird...

are you talking about the three bolts that hold the damper onto the hub? If so, what i did, is went to the local hardware store, bought three grade 8 bolts and washers, put a little loctites on em and called it good since i needed them the next day

Weird...
At the time my builder built my motor back in 99 there was not an option for a one piece rear main crank from Eagle, so he converted to the two piece SBC crank from Eagle and the thread size and pattern is different in this crank snout.

Appears he's looking for the crank hub bolt.

Can I just use a regular grade 8 bolt of the same size?

yes, but you have to keep in mind, the stock bolts have a washer already on them and they are measured under that washer, so you will need a slightly longer bolt

So I guess I need a 2 1/2 inch bolt? I thought the measurements were taken without the washer? From what I have read, the stock bolt and washer come seperately.

Yes, they do. Just get the part from the dealer, then there is no doubt it's right. It's only a buck or two.
