stock clutch question, kinda advanced.

after I started slipping with my stock clutch setup I took the thing out & found my flywheel is got more colors then the rainbow aswell as my pressure plate, but the disk looks fine, I measured the thickness & its .308"inch thick, what should it be? I'm planning on reusing the stock disk & resurfacing the flywheel & getting an LT4 PP. what do you guys think, I"m broke, like litterally broke, so do you guys think its ok to reuse the disk after the car was slipping & everything went up in clutch smoke ? I mean like I said, PP & flywheel were toast, but the disk was new about 5 month ago & seems pretty beefy, .308" thick, what should stock be? & is it ok to reuse the disk in this case? Or does something weird happen to them that they can't be used once they slip? thanx guys.

I'm sure with the multitude of people on the board someone has a stock disc lying around that they can measure for you. But nonetheless this question belongs in a normal tech forum, moving... Thanks.

Is your clutch disk glazed over?

its slipping from glaze no doubt.. The colors are for excessive heat and things of the sort. ill be willing to be the disk is glazed and thats where your problem lies

I would spend the extra $ and get a new disk while you're at it... I mean you're going to replace pretty much everything else (Resurfacing the flywheel means it's prettymuch brand new) but use the old disk... not something I would do...

I do have a mustang buddy who takes sandpaper to em ...and that usually fixes it for him. No flames please.

What are you sure its ok to use sandpaper on that stuff, you know it should be balanced I doubt it would affect it much but I dunno, what are the drawbacks from using sandpaper? I don't see any, anyone?

LOL dude i think your at that stage that i once was at where the STOCK clutch would NO LONGER hold up to the mods! i would install BRAND NEW stock clutches with perfectly resurfaced flywheels and they would be gone in less than a week! proper break in and every stuff.. there comes a time when its just time to pay up and get a better one! it just the way its gotta be

just get it turned. the main purpose for turning a fly wheel is not to get the heat spots off but it to make the flat surface truely flat again the the constant heating and cooling of the flywheel causes it to warp and you clutch wear to that warp so if you get a new clutch it will not seat right. to check the flywheel for trueness lay it on the floor and get somehting that you know has a perfect straight egde and lay it across it and you will see that straight egde will be touching the outer egdes and not the middle. and that will show how much its warped.

buy a new pressure plate and clutch and have the flywheeel turn. sence your in there do it right. i learned and this from experiance, ive have eight clutches in my car. so ive been down that road.
