My 2¢...

Don't bother with the dropped springs. They are worse for drag racing and they may cause ground clearance issues with long-tube headers.

Also, I'd move drag radials up higher on the list. Even with just a few of your mods, you won't have enough traction. My car has almost no mods, and drag radials made a big difference (cut over 0.2 off my ET)

Speed density uses just the MAP sensor to measure engine load and adjust spark/fuel from there.
94-97 LT1s use the MAF system.
Also the 93s use a PROM, so for a tune they burn you a chip and mail it to you.
You dont have to send out the whole computer for the tune, you just pop the old one out and the new one in.

do not get a shif kit! the springs cause the 4l60 to burn the clutches out! the guy at cpt has talked about this in the drivetrain section.

Ok thanks for all of the info guys. Right now hopefully I can get rid of my bike so I have the cash to buy a car, but if I can sell the bike soon enough I may try to buy lt1 kenobi's car or someone elses from this forum that is already started. I would really like to have a 6 speed car, but I'm not going to be real picky. I like these cars and want a project that I can play with. But keep the useful info coming.

Thanks again

if you were really smart you would start out with:

1. 12 bolt rear end
2. cpt pro race build transmission

then its all down hill

Yeah, but like I said I'm not looking for an all out drag car. This car will mostly be my summer daily driver that will see the track on some weekends, probably 3 or 4 times a year. The stock rear will hold for what I plan on doing with it and I could always get the tranny rebuilt if anything happens instead of buying a race tranny. I know where you are coming from though, projects like this always end up going farther than orginally planned but I'll get to those parts later down the road if they are needed.

If your gonna wait till the tranny blows and rebuild it, why not just get a race tranny? Why rebuild it for stock.

I wasn't saying that I would wait for the tranny to blow, but if it wasn't slipping or acting funny I'd leave it alone for a while. Rather than blowing my whole budget on a race prepped with a stock motor I could throw some bolt ons on it and then save for the tranny during the summer and pull it out and have it built in the winter.

On another note there is a guy around here that has a 95 or 96 z28 with cam, clutch, cai, throttle body, injectors, gears, shifter, LTs, offroad y pipe, tune, and flowmaster catback, but the rear end is blown--not sure what broke, but the guy that has it doesn't want to pay to have it fixed. He paid $5000 for it last summer and I could probably pick it up for around $4000. Depending on what he broke I might be able to get the parts from a junk yard for a few hundred bucks and throw some new gears in it (if they were hurt) and have a really nice car.

What usually breaks? The gears, axles, posi, or anything else that could go? I can understand 3 sets of gears, but 13 trannys!!! After the 2nd or 3rd on I would have been saving for the cpt. I'm not bashing you or anything but damn 13 trannys, were you getting used ones or just rebuilding the stocker?

13 trannies. Yes, you definitely need to get in touch with Frank.
