Stock Car, Where To Start Mods??

If I can sell my bike I'm going to be picking up a bone stock 93 Z28 auto with 100,000 miles. I have an idea of where to start, but what will be the best bang for the buck. I will have $1500-2000 to start with and will have to save to get more. But for now this is what I'm thinking to start out with (and these are rough prices)....

Moroso CAI---$190
Gears ---$200
Powertrax ---$400
Shift Kit ---$150
Pacesetter FL-$430
Bullets ---$70(2)
X pipe ---$85
Turndowns ---$40
___________________
Estimated $1550 I'll do all of the installs myself too

Then I could get.....
Drop Springs $250
Control Arms $200
Panhard bar $150
Torque arm $250
Strut bar $200
Subframe braces$250

Then...
Cam and lifters $550ish
Mass Air $250
Injectors $250
Throttle Body $300
Dyno Tune $500???

and the list could go on and on.

Basically I just want to get the car into the mid to low 12s for now and get most of the suspension done and a few bolt ons for the motor. Like I said I will have between $1500 and $2000 to spend as soon as I pick up the car and I won't drive it in the winter here in Wisconsin so I have some time to save some more money for mods. And I will do the basic tune up stuff but I'm not including these since most of them are cheap. Let me know which ones you would do first and I want this to be a quick street car that will see the track a few times a year, but not every weekend. Sorry for the long first post, but you guys really seem to know what your talking about and have a great site with lots of knowledge

I wouldn't waste the money on a x-pipe, the stock 3" will be fine. All that looks good, but i would consider paying someone to put the gears in. If you dont do that JUST right you will have a big mess on your hands.

I have a buddy of mine that will do the gears "just right" for a case of beer and I honestly don't think that you can beat that.

Why not go with the x pipe? I just figured that it would be a cheaper and better setup than a single 3 in with daul tips and IMHO the camaros look alot cleaner without any tips sticking out the back, but thats my opinion.

Thanks for the opinions

Moroso CAI---$190 - Cheaper used.... I'll sell you mine for 75$ LOL
Gears ---$200 - If you're friend can do them then I say good mod
Powertrax ---$400 - Dont get this.... complete waste if the stock posi is good
Shift Kit ---$150 - another waste
Pacesetter FL-$430 - Good mod!
Bullets ---$70(2) Get a offroad y pipe
X pipe ---$85 - 3" exhaust piping with a bullet is what I got. less weight and good sound.
Turndowns ---$40

Update the list to look like this.

CAI - 100$
Gears - 200$
Pacesetters/Ypipe - 530$
3" pipe to bullet with turndown - 60$
1.6 RRs - 150$
LT4 valve springs - 50$
Used stall converter - 250$
Good sticky tires - 250$

All the sudden you are a rocket for cheap.

I would add a tranny cooler to that list, help that 700 live longer.
Also dont waste your money on an aftermarket MAF, they are a pain when it comes time to tune, and dont offer much advantage over a stock one.

Your list looks pretty good and thought out, but I would probably remove the Powertrax. As for the suspension list, you will be able to find a pair of control arms for around a hundred bucks and a panhard rod for around the same. Subframe connectors will make a big difference and you will be able to find those for well under two hundred. As for the torque arm, I would look into a piece that allows you to adjust the pinion angle. As for the motor mods, take off the MAF sensor, it is a waste of money. Use that money towards valve springs, pushrods, and roller rockers to go along with the cam. Don't forget to add some extra money for a gasket set for the cam swap.

Ok thanks for the info guys. You think that the stock limited would be fine for now?

Then how about....
tranny cooler $50
Tune madz28??? $???
PS LT and OR y pipe $530
some type of exhaust $100ish
CAI $100
LT4 HotCam kit $530
Gears $200
Throttle body $300

Estimated $1700+tune

Then get stall, injectors, drag radials, better tune, and so on. I just want to get alot of the expensive stuff out of the way then I can do cheaper stuff like the suspension before spring.

One more thing I just saw that summit is making throttle bodies, are they any good? And would a twin 58 be too big? Or should I stay with a twin 52?

One more thing, why not a shift kit? I always thought it was better to have a kit?

Thanks alot guys

A tune from Madz28 will run you around 150 bucks. If you don't do the true dual setup, then you will most likely be doing another catback. That will run you over a hundred dollars, more like 300 for a brand new system. For the Hotcam kit, a bigger throttle body is not really needed. I would try to have your stock unit ported or buy one used. 58mm would be overkill, 52mm would be more then adequate if you decide to get a throttle body.

I'm still learning towards the true dual, but I'll wait and see. Is there any advantage to a aftermarket tb vs the stock unit? I know it will flow better, but is if worth the money?

One more thing, would it be worth spending more money to get a 94 and up rather than the 93 car? Whats the difference between the 93 and newer ones?

The aftermarket TB - 52mm would be fine, 58MM would be overkill, plus for 58MM u needa get ur intake manifold ported for it

93 is speed density, 94 is the first year of speed density. Honestly, i dont think theres much difference between the 2. Id try to get an early 95, because they are OBD-1 and are vented opti's
