Stock car-alarm question on a 97Z28

Is there a known problem with the stock (non-keyless entry) alarm systems with the 97's? My alarm is the type where you unlock the door with your key and have about 3 seconds to get the key in the ignition before the alarm goes off (horns/lights). This evening after locking the car with the master driver door button (everything was locked) it started going off for no reason. Only thing was this evening we had a monsoon in SE Texas and all I can figure is something electronic got wet. Can't imagine what though? I unhooked the battery just to keep the neighbors from going nuts and hoping the PCM would reset or something. I use an autolock on the clutch so honestly now I'm curious as to whether or not I could just unhook the alarm plug back by the spare tire. Or would that cause other Security issues?

Any help is appreciated.

Mine acts whacky too, to the point where i never lock my car anymore. I'm just gonna go aftermarket alarm in the spring cause the factory one sucks big time.

Mine does that too.
I don't like it either.

Everything is fine if I'm using the keyless entry remote to unlock it... alarm never goes off no matter how long you wait to put the key in the ignition. But if unlocking it with the door key.... BETTER HURRY! honk honk, beep beep, flash, flash. IRRITATING.

LOL...well at least I know it's not just me, first off nobody is not getting past the AutoLock without a torch and catching the car. I'll have to break down and get a keyless entry one of these days...but then again that would come out of performance $$$.

***How can I disconnect this system and not have any PCM or ignition problems etc etc? Anyone know?***

I know in the owners manual you can set the delay from when you unlock the doors (with the key) as to how long you have. I set mine to 0 seconds because I have keyless entry. I frequently have the tops out and I don't want to give theves a 7 second head start. It might have something about disabling that feature or giving you more time. It's been awhile since I did it. I think you remove the fuse to the radio and then push some butons or turn the lights on and then off or something like that. (Don't quote me on that).

With my 96 TA, when i started having that lovely grinding noise from my headlights, the alarm now effects the headlights moving up and down.

For example, if i want to unlock my car, the headlights pop up and then go right down. Then the grinding noise starts. The same thing happens when i lock it.

But sometimes I'm able to stop the lights from popping up. If i keep pressing the unlock or lock button everytime the headlight starts grinding, I may be able to stop it. The headlights will only start grinding again when I use them again at night time, which is why i wish TAs didnt have the motorized headlights.

Complicated system, but i got slightly used to it.

I'm still waiting on my GM Owners Manual which the car didn't have when I bought it. If it's not too much trouble could you find that section? Seems like there is an online GM Manual somewhere I found on here but I lost the link. Thanks for all the help everyone.

Check your shock sensor. It should be right above the spare tire. There is a sensitivity adjustment on it. I just unplugged mine because it was giving me nothing but trouble.
