I just did a xe218/224 on a 112lsa in my car and could not be happier with it. Still drives like it did with the stock cam but pulls so much harder. I went with an xe grind b/c the power comes on sooner and i didnt want to rev my stock bottom end much past 6000 rpm.

Also this is supposed to be one of the best cams for stock heads.

All of the cams mentioned here are very similar. They are all great for stock heads (XE218/224, CC305, Hotcam, 210/224...)

My view of each camwith headers, CAI and catback)

XE218/224: (Expect about 335rwhp/335 rwtq)
Possibly the best off the shelf cam for stock heads if you don't want to rev to the moon. Excellent throttle response, gas milage, and power. TQ comes on about the same as the other cams, but peaks a little higher and drops off fast at high RPM (>6200 rpm) You have to buy good springs for the XE grind.

CC305: (Expect about 335rwhp/335 rwtq)
Great cam. See consistantly good times from people who have it. A little easier on the valvetrain than the XE grinds, and can rev a little higher than the XE218/224 if you want without floating the valves.

Hotcam: (Expect about 328rwhp/328 rwtq)
Great all around cam. You can spin this to the moon with it's lazy ramps. Easy on the valvetrains and has a super flat TQ curve.

Crane 210/227: (Expect about 320rwhp/325 rwtq?)
Excellent low end TQ and just enough top end to keep you happy. Some very fast cars with this cam. A good sleeper cam with great daily driving characteristics.

Have you dynoed that cam? I keep trying to find a dyno of it without success.

Alot of guys get hotcams to run very quick on stock heads. I would definetly get something smaller than the 224/230, which kills your power under 2800 or so.

Im getting a custom cam with some more low end while i do my head swap

Would their be any advantages of getting the cc305 ground on a 112 LSA?

From the sounds of it I'll be happy with either the cc305 or the 502. I'm probably going with the 305 because it's easier on the valvetrain, and I like how it sounds... could use a little more lope though which is mainly why I'm interrested in the effects on the 305 on a 112lsa.

thanks for all the help though!!!

so do you guys think it would be beter to run the cc305 with 1.5 RR's or the hot cam with 1.6 RR's? I was dumb and bought the Crane 1.5 RR's a while ago, and right now am looking into the Hot cam kit due to the $$ savings (can't afford another $300 set of RR's). I also have stock heads and stock manifolds.

Thanks

They would be almost identical set up that way, but the Hotcam will still have more lift with 1.6 RR's vs using 1.5 RR's on the CC305.

Out of those two choices, I would go with the Hotcam kit with the 1.6 RR's.

You'll get a little better high end TQ/HP with the 112 LSA vs the 114 lsa, but you will loose a tiny bit of low end TQ.

The idle will be slightly more noticable with the 112 LSA.

I'll probably just get it with the 114lsa, low end torque is my main concern and I'd rathar keep as much of it as I can!

Thanks for all the help in picking my cam!!! It's not easy to do with so many options available.

If you are looking for low end then you want an XE grind. You also wont rev one of these as high. I highly recomend the 218/224.

can I use my stock lifters with the 218/224, provided they are in good shape?

other parts i'm selecting to go with my swap:
- cm612 springs, no matter which cam I decide to go with.
- 1.6 pro magnum rocker arms (self aligning)
- I'll figure pushrods later.

Note: iron heads!

anyone see any problems with components used?

later, matt

One last: I saw some great dyno #'s from someone using this cam (218/224) on a 111 LSA, will that make that big of a difference compared to the normal 112lsa it's ground on. Will the torque still come in before the cc305 when ground on a 111lsa?
