Thumbs up Stock bottom end & intake on CC306 setup... lots of ?'s

Not being too familiar with the LT1 FI setup much at all, I was wandering, what kind of setup could I run on a 140k mile LT1, on a Comp Cams 306 cam and I'm looking at AFR190 heads... I'm pretty mechanically inclined (or atleast I'd like to think so) and was wandering if everything internally could hold. I know its not guna hurt it, but atleast replacing the rings would be a good idea with a fresh set of heads, seeing that they have 140k on 'em. What kind of horsepower gains are we talking about here as well? Perhaps pistons would be in order as well. I'm trying to reach a setup to where I could run high 12s and keep it as a daily driver. My best buddy has a 12 second IROC, and I'm just trying to keep up Is a CC306 too much for a daily driver? What other small bits and peices should I look for when tearing into a project like this. I'm not really trying to pull the motor at all, with all the room in the world GM gives us when working on these cars. I realize this configuration will not be cheap and if need be, I will go internal to make sure everything holds up. I didnt think this post would be necessary to put in the advanced tech since I'm not going for a total overhaul and build-up. Any input is appreciated, and thanks for the help guys

Oh yeah, and whom can I contact about the LT1 edit program, and getting it to be fitted to my setup? Again, thanks for the help

the 306 is a lil big for what you want, you can run a CC305 with those heads be VERY streetable and easily get into the high 12s

i installed the 306 plus all the valvetrain:1.6rr,cloyes t/c,double springs, retainers, locks(all from combinationmotorsports)headers and elecrtric w/p in one lick. Motor started right up and ran perfect, pcmforless tune, the idle was, well, mean as hell sounding Anyways, I logged 500 maintance free miles then i spun every single bearing except one rod The prob. is, JMO, the motor is still pulling past 7k, and for me if its still pulling i'm gonna stay in it. If you can control yourself, and keep it below 65k or so it should last and run damn good. It kinda felt like when i had the 100 shot on my stock motor. The motor had 80k by the way. Driveability was not an issue at all, any one could drive it. The idle was very intimidating too I might add, i know, it doesnt make it fast to hit a mean lick, but nothing like hearing late model car camming off like that. JMO

it would be best for you to go ahead and put new bearings in, and inspect the rods and pistons while you do the heads/cam swap. you dont have to but it would be best, especially since its easy to pull the motor once you have the top end off. i was running a cam similar to the cc306 and had no drivability issues with it whatsoever. if you were going to put a set of afr's on your car, i think that you should look into going with a lloyd/overton setup. those guys are putting down (with good tunes) close to 400 rwhp with the stage 1 setups. another thing for you to think about is your tranny, i think that is going to be an issue for you if you have that many miles with it being stock and then adding that much power. oh btw, the stock bottom end will be more than enough to handle 400 rwhp.

I am running the cc306 with stock block and heads. All I did was put in the impala head gaskets. I am also running Ti retainers, locks, comp 987 springs, hardened pushrods, 1.6rr's, etc. Had some issues, but they were all opti related and were fixed today. Car runs awesome, and sounds even better. With my dynomax race bullet muffler and turndown, I scared off a 65 vette with a 396 and a 671 blower that put down 600+ at the wheels: he revved at me, I revved back, he went from the straight lane to the turn lane in the middle of the intersection. Talked to him later and he thought I had a big stroker motor in there.

BTW, with basically the cam, long tubes/cut-out, and CAI, I put down 351rwhp/365rwtq.
