Still Digging on my 95 Z28

I'm still holding out hope that I don't have a blown head gasket. My head is hurting from all the forums/videos I've watched. I've tried to use a block tester on this thing but I dont think I'm getting enough time to gather gassses before it starts puking anitfreeze out of the radiator neck. Can you test from the resevoir? Should the coolant in the resevoir tank eventually be warm? mine stays cold.

Is it normal for these to puke so quickly? and I'm getting a lot of pressure in the upper hose shouldn't the rad cap (replaced) let loose before it builds to much pressure?
Last question I have an issue with fans only coming on when the A/C is turned on I've read shoebox from top to bottom and guessing there is issue between ECS and PCM thou I measured the wire at the ECS at the water pump and got +5v. The car starts running hot then when I turn the A/C on it goes to normal, I let it run 15-20 minutes with no overheating. If it was a head gasket wouldn't it eventually start running hot?
I'm not noticing any oil in the antifreeze and no antifreeze in the oil. The car has a small amount of white smoke coming from pipe, but no sweet smell/taste.
Replaced: All 3 relays, 2 Thermostats, Water pump, Radiator, Coolant resevoir

All the work you did to the cooling system... judging by your screen name, since you have a LT1.. you did follow the rules for bleeding all air out of the cooling system didnt you?

There are 2 bleed screws that you have to play with while your engine gets to temp... you should see solid streams of coolant coming out.. not hot air / bubbles...

make sure you stuff a rag in there to keep water off your distributer..

Yeah, I've gone through 3 heat cycles. Guess I'm, doing it right. I leave the vlaves open til engine heats up and there is steady stream coming out.

If you have a blockage of some sort.. yes.. and since we have a reverse cooling setup, the upper radioator hose will feel solid... and the rad cap will not let loose... it is all about pressure.. I believe 8-13 psi should be in the system.

Dont kill me for asking.. but did yoou get the correct LT thermostat? AND, did you install it correctly?

I wouldnt make a mountain out of a mole hill, which i am sometimes guilty of..

Does your low coolant light turn on? I understand this does not feed into the PCM... only the sensor on the water pump is.. it is responsible for kicking on the fan(s) via the PCM.

You have basicly replaced your entire cooling system... and when you ide with the AC / Heater off... you overheat?

I would rent a cooling system pressure tester from Autozone or O'reilly.. you just screw it on like you do the radiator cap and pressurize the system to the spec it supports... That will reveal your cooling woes if that is indeed what is occuring..

I got a thermo from Oreilly (Yeah I know) and it's identical from the one I took off (Think i'm going to go to the dealer and pick another up. Thats right it only Overheats sitting with A/C off. I'm going to run it up and down the road with A/C ON here in a few.

I pressure tested the cap which was fine, pressure tested the system and found a couple leaks that I fixed with a few new hose clamps. When I pressure tested the cooling system I didn't get a reading for the first 4 minutes then after about 8 minutes it read 7PSI. The fans didn't kick in til I turned the heater on at about 240-250.

i had a very similar situation last winter/summer... check the plugs to your electric fans. mine were'nt connected all the way and i guess when they finally came loose after hitting a speed bump or something they stopped working kept overheating and causing tons of issues and small problems until one day me and my friend at my job was looking around and noticed one of the plugs to my fans wasnt hooked up. after that they've worked fine ever since

Sometimes it's the easiest things.....LOL....Where you fans working at all? Mine work when the A/C is turned on.

yes they were only working with A/C on.. like i said a pretty similair situation... we bleed the system a thousand times.. checked hoses over and over and still nothing until we noticed a plug to the fans wasnt connected and boom all was good. also if your above 100k miles from my experience i'd advice to replace all the radiator and heater hoses because mine are full of gunk. thats the first thing im doing when i get home from this deployment

There was really no reason for you to delete this thread, so I restored it. There is nothing wrong with starting a "new" thread that deals specifically with the issues of the fans/wiring. That's is a subset of this problem, but it's not the same as the content of this thread..

Just because it upset one member that you started three threads (I must have missed the third one???) there was no need to delete this one.

Hopefully you are getting these problems sorted out.

Re: Still Digging on my 95 Z28

I discovered on my new to me camaro, that the relay for the foglights and fan #1 was removed but a jumper installed. Turn the foglights on and the fan kicks on. Well I found the stock relay and used shoebox's how to on determining if the PCM has the ability to operate the fans. For a 95 you jumper slot 5 and 6 on the DLC and put the key to on but don't start the engine. The fans should turn on. Thought this was worth adding.
