Sticky Request
Re: Sticky Request
Sorry Z95m6 I am going to have to disagree-- Sound clips are not pointless.......they are entertaining! If they are actually done right you can tell a lot from them, I am thinking we are talking more like a hotcam and an GM 847 comparison. Granted if you were running like the 305 or the hotcam it would be hard to tell from sound clips. I think it's more for a wider comparison. Newer members like to hear the difference so they decide how much lope they really want.
Me personally, don't want to hear them to go buy that exact set--nor does most other people here. Mostly i like to hear them, cause i love cars...so does everyone else here, so why not just make a seperate forum for sound clips and videos? More as entertainment than anything--not for deciding on what cam to buy.
I think it would just be cool to see what some fellow board members have, this way we could group them all together.

Re: Sticky Request
i personally wouldnt buy a cam because of how it sounded.
however, i do like listening to how other people set there cars up. there are so many different variations out there that it is kind of cool to listen to how someone else has their car set up.
whats funny about me though, is that i could ride around all day in my car and never have to turn on the radio just because i enjoy the sound of my motor. and that was on a stock engine. i have yet to hear my car with the cam swap yet. its still in progress. i have actually searched this site for a soundclip though just to try and get an idea of how its going to sound

Re: Sticky Request
I think we'd need more members to make it happen, and even then, what we want and what the moderators want or will do is another. I would like to see it, but I am not banking on it happening.

Re: Sticky Request
There's actually a forum for addressing these sort of issues..... "Site Help and Suggestions". The need for new forums is addressed in the "stickied" FAQ on that forum:

Re: Sticky Request
I think a sub forum would not be the brightest idea, as there are still plenty of people still posting tire, interior, rear-end and paint questions in the "LT1 Engine Tech" forum. Just one more forum to confuse the masses.
Re: Sticky Request
I do think a sub forum would be a good idea, although as Dave said, alot of people can't seem to get that right.
I personally think how a car sounds is EVERY bit as important has how it performs or looks. I don't think i would ever buy an LS1 just becuase i dont like how they sound. The problem is there are plenty of sound clips in the threads here, but alot of the links are dead links. There needs to be a separate website or something to host them. Maybe if everyone were willing to chip in and pay for a website, someone would put it up. I have ALOT of sound clips on my computer but i only have dial up so someone else should make the website and i'll mail them a CD of them all.

Re: Sticky Request
I wholeheartedly agree. Many of the other forums I visit have a special area just for videos and sounds, and I think this site would definately benefit from something like that. It would definately inspire me to break out the video camera and post up a couple of vids.
lol

IMO the reason for this is for a couple of reasons. 1)someone is just dumb and doesn't know 2) (as i have done in the past) you need very fast respone...and everyone hangs out in the LT1 forum eveytime they come on...not everybody drifts over to the tire or drivetrain forum--so posting there is useless if you need a fast answer. Not to mention there are only a few who actually visit those forums regularly. 3) people post here, because it isn't specific enough......lots of thing are left out.
The reason to create sub forums would be so we aren't always answering CAI qustions and such...have a specific folder for each topic.....make sub categories for things such as CAI, exhaust, gears, valvetrain, cam/heads, etc......I think if the forums where broke up this way people would visit all the different categories instead of just the LT1 Engine forum. Cause lets face it, how many replies and new posts are there in those other forums? not that many. Maybe it's the way they are group and such i don't know. I bet if you put the drivetrain forum next to the LT1 forum you'd get more hits. What is keeping people from going to the correct forum..........the main factor being.........(drum roll please)........the amount of people who visit them. No one wants to post somewhere that they will only get 1 or 2 responses from. That's why we have people with 800 900, 1000+ posts posting tire questions in the LT1 forum, it's not cause they don't know better it because they know they won't get hardly any response if put in the tire section---cause lets face it we don't check that forum till we need tires--then guess what there's no one there to answer our questions
I personally don't know if it can be done with these sub-categories.....it would be easy if this was a small board....we all could post in one forum. I don't know what should be done, but something eventually will have to be done. Why not experiment with a sound and video sub-category? If it doesn't work just delete it.I don't think we should just jump and try to do this now, but making a seperate category for sound clips and vids wouldn't be a bad idea, then we could see if making the set-up like this would work and how people respond to it. It would give us an idea on where to go from here.

Of course these are just my opinions, and are not facts, it's just what i think.
