i guarantee that you start a huge discussion on how you did your's in 45 minutes, most people I've talked to say 2-3 hours min. I'd like to know how you did yours so fast.

Yeah, I for one would like to know how you changed your opti in 45 minutes. I'm even gonna subscribe to this thread.

Here's the rundown on how to do it (for the original question)..

Take off your intake elbow, drain the cooling system.

Jack the car up, remove your water pump (six bolts). You'll also remove your A.I.R. pump as it's bolted to the middle bolt on the driver's side.

Remove your accessory belt.

Unbolt your harmonic balancer. Have a harmonic balancer puller ready, and remove your harmonic balancer.

Remove the three (i think it's three) screws holding your opti in place. You may have to stutter-crank your car a few times to move the crankshaft so it doesn't block the bottom bolt of the opti.

Remove/replace opti, plug spark plug wires back into opti.

A good thing to do at this point would be to test your car to make sure it starts. It'd be a shame to not have your car start and have to rip it apart again.

Put your harmonic balancer back on, the accessory belt too.

Bolt up the water pump (don't forget about the A.I.R. pump), stick the intake elbow back on.

Refill/Bleed cooling system.

Hope that helps....

when you're lazy and resourceful like me you don't need to remove the fans.

One thing I would recommend is replacing the opti oil seal in the timing cover, it would suck to have to do it all over again if seal starts to leak.

you know, most people I've talked to say that its not necessary to remove the fans either, it may be a little more maneuvering, but one less step.

I agree with Lt1t56 when you change out opti spark replace your timing cover seal, cause if oil splaters all over that opispark and all aover your coil your in for it again... Also keep in mind before you remove the timming coever seal its not fun to replace it you have to drop your exaust system jack up your moter and pull your oil pan as well .... its not fun to do... oh and by pulling the fans you have a little more room to work with and it only takes about 2 minutes to do.

ok... not too hard... well... maybe i should mention this...
first time i did it, it took me a good hour and a half.. (this BTW is just TAKING it OFF the car.. not the whole job).
in the same day that i replaced my Opti... I had to do the process 4 times do to variouse reasons.... so... my last time... it took me only 45 min to take the opti off the car.. and another 45 min or so to put it back in...

sorry if i wasn't being so clear...

Distributor drive shaft seal p/n 10128317 for the 1993-94.

The fans are not really in the way, but there is more room with them out. You can unplug them and maybe a plastic tie or two and slide the whole fan unit out.

Shoebox, would you happen to know the p/n for the 95-97 distr drive shaft seal?

BTW, I agree, it is really easy (as I've done it all too frequently) to remove the entire fan housing. Just unhook both fans' wiring harness from the motor connectors and lift and drop the entire housing from the "fingers" that hold the housing against the rad.
