steering wheel linkage

okay, i'm trying to install my steering wheel linkage. are there any tips to getting this thing back on easily? ive got the top part to slide on pretty easily. now i cant get the bottom part to sit into place. it would be nice if it could slide on just a little bit so that i could use a pipe or screwdriver and a rubber mallet to tap it on. i just cant get it started. should i try to put that end on first. seems that if i do, i would have just as hard, if not harder time putting the top piece back on. hmm, just looking for suggestions and some inside tips. thanks guys.

Re: steering wheel linkage

The overall length of the linkage is adjustable. The bottom "leg" has a slider built into it. It usually rusts in place. Use some penitrating oil and tap it with a hammer. This adjustment should allow you to reconnect the linkage without any trouble. Make sure you lock your steering wheel in place. If you don't, you risk breaking the "clock spring" coil wire for the ABS; don't ask how I know
