Starting problems

Hi everyone,

I have been having a weird starting problem. The car was sitting for about 6 months and I decided to fire it up and get this project going. I replaced the water pump and put a new IAC in the TB as I was having major idling issues.

What happens is that when I connect the battery and go to start the car all the lights work and I can hear the fuel pump prime but then I turn the key and I hear a click and everything goes dead. No interior, dash or exterior lights and the engine does not turn... as if the battery is not even connected. If I disconnect the neg. battery cable and re-connect it the lights come back and with a turn of the key the fuel pump primes but I hear a click and everything goes dead again... the car did eventually run and run well after the new IAC was installed but only after numerous disconnects/reconnects of the battery. I sent the computer off to be tuned and had the car sitting with the battery disconnected for about a week and the problem is now back...

I tried to do a search for anyone having a similar problem but most no start issues seems to be related to the engine at least crankng over or the lights working as well and in my case neither is happening.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Could be the ignition switch.

Update:

I let the car sit for a few days with the battery connected but the car dead and yesterday I gave it another try. I disconnected the battery and reconnected the lo and behold the car started right up... again and again... so wierd. It's as if disconnecting the battery for an extended period of time is giving me problems.

Does any of this sounds like it could be the ignition switch going out? What symptoms would a failing VATS give me?

Any help is appreciated.
