starting problems

Well as expected my car isnt running again.

Thursday the battery died and I put in a new battery just to get it down the street to my house. Sunday I go to start it again and I get nothing. Lots of cranking every once in awile a cylinder or two would fire but nothing close to an idle.

I checked a bunch of fuses and they all looked good. So I tried to start the car with the factory ignition and got absolutely nothing. After about a minute of cranking I could smell gas so its getting some fuel and the fuel pump did prime. Any ideas?

The only thing that was different from when it was running last week was that I left the negative terminal of the battery unplugged so that it wouldnt drain.

Re: starting problems

Check spark at a couple of plugs. Then put a plug and wire on the coil and check there. If you have spark at the coil and not at the plugs it's easy from there. If you don't have spark at the coil, you need to start by looking for voltage and ground. After that point it gets a little complicated.

BTW, don't keep cranking it with this problem the fuel will wash the oil from the cylinder walls. Change the oil and fog the cylinders so that you can continue occasionaly cranking it to find the problem.
