Starting problem
Starting problem
Ok, heres the deal its a 1993 Z28 stock, 148k miles. Its been doing this for awhile, just not enough to annoy me until tonite. Sometimes when i go to start it cold, ill turn the key to the on, let the fuel pump run, then turn to start and nothing happens. I found out the trick was to just hold it there in the start position and it would eventually crank. Upon that it will always fire right up. I know its not the starter cuz i broke that, and replaced it a few months ago Has new plugs and wires also. Tonite it pissed me off cuz i had to hold it for about 10 mins, so i realized i should really try to fix it. I am guessing it is corrosion somewhere inside an electrical line. I cleaned most exposed terminals when i did an engine swap. Just wondering if it might be something im not thinking of (coil?? how do you check), cuz i want to fix it, ive only got weekends, so i can't spend alot of time with my head up my *** tryin to find the problem. Sorry for the long post, and Thanks in advance.
Re: Starting problem
I'm not sure if you're talking about not cranking or it cranks but won't fire up. If you're talking about NOT cranking, the ignition components like plugs wires and coil have no effect. The problem would be in the starting circuit. If that's the case, you need to see if the problem is in the TDR. A simple jumper from the yellow to the purple wire will tell you if it's pulling in or not. If the jumper doesn't help, probe the yellow wire coming from the ignition switch to see if it has 12 volts as soon as you turn the key to start. If it does not, the problem is the Ig Switch. If it does, the problem could be the tranny switch.
If you're talking about the engine cranks but will not fire, usually that problem is fuel related.
