Starting the motor outside the car, bad idea or not?
Starting the motor outside the car, bad idea or not?
A friend of mine, former mechanic, suggested we start the motor before putting it in.
He said we can briefly run it without the alternator and without coolant in it. He says we can spray fuel in the intake ourselves to get it to run. Sounds a little sketchy to me. What do you all think? Is it safe?

I have done that with the older carbureted engines, but never attempted a FI engine. I don't think that will work at all. Unless you have the complete fuel system hooked up and the engine harness and PCM and well.... you are better off just putting it in the car and starting it. Just my opinion.
