Starting issues...cause?

Lately my car has been "skipping a beat" when I start it. It will sort of go to start then die quickly, then I will have to hold the key in the start position for a few seconds before the starter engages. It only happens when the engine is warm- not on cold starts. What could this be? Bad starter? Opti? Replies are appreciated.
