Starting issue

Every so often after the car has been sitting over night Ill come out to start it and it will jump to about 1500rpm like normal but fall back to 0 just as quickly and on occasion burble for a split second ad 200 rpm before dropping to 0. Ill try again and it always starts fine the second time, it also cranks right up the first time so its not like I have to REALLY crank on it or anything. Any tips?

Re: Starting issue

Hmmmm... From what I read it might have something to do with the fuel pump. Maybe it's not priming right. This is a long-shot but it's the 1st thing that came to mind.

Is the pump stock? Do either of you have any problems when the car is running, like hesitation, loss of power, etc?

Re: Starting issue

Mine is a stock pump with 90k miles on it and yes my car is down on power lately quite a bit at all rpms... It also sounds different but I contributed all that to a cat possibly blowing apart and lodging itself wrong in the exhaust system which happened once before... I thought fuel pump as well but wasnt sure if it would give me those symptoms..

Re: Starting issue

How about your opti? Is that stock too? Also, have you checked all your plug wires for burn marks, and all your plug boots to see if any have melted? I would start there first, make sure there is no arcing -- pop your hood at night and look for sparks.

Re: Starting issue

I'm about to replace my plugs and wires and my opti has maybe a couple thousand on it since it was replaced. I am fixing the coil, plugs, wires and exhaust system here soon so if its none of those you think it could be the fuel pump? I will check for arcing regardless, thanks.

Re: Starting issue

Fuel pressure is about 35 or so at idle and just above that at cruise and when I get on it it goes up around 43 or so, sound normal? I'm thinkin Im gonna pull the exhaust off again and see if it helps any....

Re: Starting issue

Did you check it at idle with the vacuum tube off the regulator?

Re: Starting issue

It would simulate fuel pressure at WOT while your car is at idle. It should be 43.5 PSI without the vacuum tube at idle. That way you don't have to drive around with it and increase the chance of a fire
