starter problem...NEED HELP

i've had this project going for about 5 months and the car's finally back together. The car was towed to the exhaust shop to get the duals put on and towed back home. The shop ran the battery down and after trying to charge it back up, I just bought another battery.

When i hooked the battery up and tried to start it, it barely wanted to turn over and smoke came from the starter wires and melted the wire from the solenoid to the starter motor.

Pretty sure the shop took down the starter to put my collectors on (Dynatechs) and screwed up the wires, now I don't know which posts the wires go on for sure.

There is a small ground wire that's grounded at the oil pan. I know which post the half melted wire goes on, and the battery cable. Which one does the purple wire go on?

Other question is...if it was hooked up right, what would cause that????

Thanks for any help and sorry that's kinda long

The ground goes here on a stud above the starter on the block.

The purple wire goes on the outside small terminal and the battery cable goes on the bottom.

Take it back to the shop, they will pay for a new starter if yours was damaged.
