Angry Starter nose broke off and fell into dust sheild!!

Well i go to start my car to leave work, car doesnt quit start it fires a cylinder or two and stalls. Well i guess it didnt stop totally cause my dumbass hit the starter again too soon and heard that great ZIINNGGG noise and a clank. Im thinkin oops damn, well then i start the car and something is rattling around. I figured out something was tumbling around by the flywheel pretty quick. Pull the drivers side bolts reach in and pull a chunck of starter out! (the cup like end that holds the end of the starter pinion shaft. Huge chunk broke right off somehow the whole cup part! Even more amazingly the starter still seemed to work fine with the end cup part totally off the starter.

I get an autozone lifetime warrenty starter for 150 bux, jack the car up at my buddys garage pull the old one out and go to put the new one in. First wire my buddy goes to put on (heavy feed from battery) and he barely touches the nut with the wrench and the whole bolt twists right off the solenoid. Damndest thing ove seen on a brand new starter and ive seen alotta **** in my days. Sure enough no other autozone has one in stock. So my cars stuck in my buddys garage till i can find an autozone with one in stock or wait 2 days to get another one from their warehouse.

Well thats my story and or rant. Has anyone ever broken the nose off a starter on an LT1 or other motor b4???

Wow that really sucks. Can't say I've had starter problems before, still on the stocker here.

Same thing happened to me. One morning I started my car and heard a clang. I ignored it but a month later when i replaced my starter I found a piece of it and I guess the rest disintergrated.

$150.00 for a rebuild. I would call SAM Taylor and get the LT4 starter for the same price. Brand new in the box, smaller, light weight, and is a high torque starter.
