Unhappy starter making noise? 96 TA 6 speed

96 6 speed ta. switched motors using same trans, clutch, flywheel, starter. now my starter is making a screaching noise right as the engine takes off and starts. tried to shim it made more noise, tried some silicone on the starter shaft and gear and even tried a little grease on the flywheel teeth, no change. please help trying to work the bugs out so i can sell it and get my new toy.

Are you sure the flywheel seated correctly when you installed it? When you drive the car, does it shutter coming off the line? Just a thought. Mine did same thing but shimming worked, I believe I went with 1/16 shim. I did however change clutch/flywheel combo with same trans.

Try different shim thicknesses.

dtime, what are the symtoms of the fly wheel not being seated properly? is that common thought everything went together well, hard to say about the shutter, it does but it's got a spec 4 clutch. if that is the problem can i live with it as it is or is there down the road problems i will try to get thinner shims and see the ones i got seem thick and didn't offer many thin options
