Starter issue???

While installing some headers the smallest wire on the starter was broken off the starter itself. I would assume it normally attaches via a pole or some type of plug. It looked as though it had been soldered on before and we attempted to resolder the connection again. when we got everything buttoned back up and tried to start the car there was a grinding / clunking sound. The pulleys were turning (very slowly) but the motor would not start. Could the connection we made not be good, or did we connect it to the wrong part of the starter. Where is the small wire suppose to connect? Anyhelp would be appreciated

thanks

Re: Starter issue???

Miles,

I think we're special and didn't quite look around when we put it back in. I left a voicemail explaining this, but pictures are better.

I think that wire is actually your PCM ground. When your room mate pulled the starter off it probably broke free higher up.

If you look at this picture of the starter from shoebox's site you'll see that there are only two wires going to the starter. The big power wire, the smaller wire (signal) and then the starter just grounds to the block. There is also the wire that connects the solenoid to the starter but it is only about an inch long and on the right hand side of this picture.

Give me a call though.
