starter done

well basically my starter is fried. My ? is I went out to start my car and the starter stayed running, turned the car off still running. 5mins later the starter was in a puff of smoke. I was out and did not have a 8mm to disconnect the batt. Tried pulling fuse's and nothing. Had to sit back and enjoy the show. The starter is a rebuilt one still under warrenty so no big deal there but what would cause it to stay on?

Could have been a stuck solenoid.

That kind of makes me think. It might be a good idea to carry a 5/16" wrench in the glove box for emergency situations where you might need to disconnect the battery.

So how much is a new solenoid? is it in the starter? As much fun as it was watching the starter fry I wish I had a 8mm wrench. I had a 10mm-18mm on me but nothing to disconnect the battery
