starter??

since my engine rebuild my starter can turn on the engine quickly when cold but once engine it's hot it's more dificult take like 4 sec. the starter was rebuilded recently.
Do you know if exsist a "bolt on" stronger starter or one that needs minor mods to install it?

Re: starter??

Slower starting when warm may be a tuning issue as a warm engine needs a different air/fuel mix than a cold engine.

Re: starter??

Basically most GM starters for a 168 tooth (someone correct me if i'm wrong about the tooth count) flywheel will bolt up no problem. There's the lt4 starter too that some people put in.

Is it cranking over slowly when it's warm? Maybe it's heat soaked, some people put a heat sheild or a blanket around the starter to deflect radiant heat from the headers. However, I haven't had a problem with my starter yet, and it's original.

Re: starter??

LT1 flywheels have 153 teeth.

Look at Summit or Jegs for high torque starters. The LT4 starter is stronger, as well.

Re: starter??

I put a Powermaster starter on my Formula yesterday. Kinda crappy workmanship, but can't argue with the result.
