stand alone

Anyone know of a really good stand alone engine managment system for a 93 LT1? I want a whole new computer that i can tune with a lap top, im tired of this chinsy mail order stuff lol. If there is one that fits to all the stock sensors that would be great. Need some info, thanks!

Re: stand alone

Most systems are perfect for the 93 since they are usually speed density types but they are all pricey. Accel and FAST both come to mind but I think they are between 1300 and 2000 big ones.

Here's one link.

If you go with MOTEC, you need a second mortgage.

Re: stand alone

You want a full sequential, multi-point, with dual wide-bands, and capable of controlling 4-wheel traction control, fully variable cam timing, drive-by-wire, full digital dash, integrated steering wheel controls and display, full data logging capabilities, and telemetry options, go here:

http://www.motec.com/products/ecu/control.htm#M880
http://www.motec.com/products/dash/adl2dash.htm
http://www.motec.com/products/steering.htm

I run the M48 Pro in full sequential, speed-density, using the Opti high and low res signals to drive 8 LS1-style coils in direct fire mode. Fully integrated contols for a 300-shot of dry nitrous including window switches, throttle postion switch and other nitrous related amenities.

As far as being emissions legal in CA, how would they even know its there, and that the stock ECM wasn't running the engine. In my setup, only the stock PCM is visible, the MoTeC is tucked away behind it, and the wiring is hooked up in parallel, where necessary.

Re: stand alone

Sounds to me like you might just want to swap to a 94-5 MAF system tuning software is only $90 for tunercat plus $90 for something like Datamaster to log the data, add another $35-90 for a cable. It is not tunable on the fly as it requires shutting the engine off and reflashing the memory but it is done in car. If you need to pass emmisions in CA yours will not be a combo radical enough to see much benifit from one of the higherend systems and your money would be better spent on the 94-5 MAF stock setup and mods.

Re: stand alone

I was also wondering, that motec system...does it hook up like to all my stock sensors, what kinds of modifying is there? How much power do you think i could see off that? Thanks for the info man, i am really considering getting one of these and a lap top within a month. Im tired of mailing in tunes for a slow old computer. Thanks!!

Re: stand alone

This doesn't make any since at all.

1. Your car does not remotely need a stand alone computer

2. Where did you hear the computer in the 93 is slow or old? Its just as capable as the other LT1 computers.. The grass is always greener on the otherside.. the L98 MAF guys want Speeddensity, the Mustang speeddensity want MAF, the MAF LS1's want Speeddensity.

3. Whats "chinsy" about our mail order stuff? If you have a problem with a almost stock car and our tuning is it not possible that you have a mechanical/sensor issue? Have you stopped to call us or email us about it before ruling it be a problem with our tuning?

Re: stand alone

Sorry for the misunderstanding, i never said your tunning was chinsey, i think its lame to mail out for tunes that someone else tunes. I want to be a tuner myself, so it is something i want to play with and get into hopefully as a job maybe someday thats all. I am fully happy with your tune, but i want something i can play with myself. Also alot of people i have talked to in my area have also said that the computer in the 93s is weak for some reason. Anyways, sorry about the confusion.

Check out tunercat.. more specifically RTtuner. With a romulator(sp) you can make changes on the fly with a laptop. So instead of burning a chip each time you want to make an adjustment, you just make it and go. Then if you like the change you can burn a new chip later.

With the right tools the 93 ECM is really adaptable!
