Put a stall in it and it will quit doing that. Your other option is to bump the park idle rpm a couple hundred above the in gear idle rpm. There are other things that can be done too but they are all in the tune. Kind of need a datalog and a copy of the 'custom tune' to figure out what needs to be done to help it. Its still going to stumble badly into gear without a stall in it but at least it wont die with a few tricks working. If you don't have the stuff to log or tune, you can try cracking the throttle blades a little bit more.

That was my first thought, so I posted this

You believe whoever you want to, i've driven and tuned a few cars with big cams and a stock stall. All that bull**** goes away every time when a proper converter goes in. Although most of the time you can crutch it with some tuning.

If you do it you will want to swap gears too because a decent stall with 2.73 gears is going to suck bad. When the converter isn't locked up around town you will probably be able to change engine rpm by 1000 without changing speed. 3.73's will make a converter feel much tighter and thats what I would go with.

A trick to keep it from stalling is be ready to drive when you fire it up. When you start the car it will rev up a bit and then settle to commanded idle. If you drop it into reverse before it gets the chance to settle most of the time it wont die out.

Read his other post. The engines only running on 4 cylinders. Even a high stall convertor isn't going to fix that...
After he gets it running then a convertor would be a good idea...
