Hey guys, I have a 1996 z/28 and this only happends when it gets cold. I'll be driving and the car will just die. I notice when it dies the exauhst smells bad, like it has bad gas. I can let it sit for a few min, and it will start. Have been told the opti-spark is probably the problem. Have read in my chilton repair book the because the distributer sits behind the water pump and is a 2 piece unit, its prone to getr water and debrie in it. so I am going to change that. Ran a test on the fuel pump and checks out fine. Has anybody else had this problem?

 

Have you had it scanned for codes? That would be the logical first step, before dumping money and time into replacing the Opti. And to clarify... when you say "this only happends when it gets cold.".... do you mean it only stalls when the engine/coolant is cold, or when the ambient air temps are cold?
