Stall converter

I cannot find a stall converter for my 4L60E tranny. Every GM is for 700R4,TH350/400 trannys. Will any of them fit my 4L60E or do I have to find just for a 4L60E.
Thanks

Re: Stall converter

Turbo 700 and 4L60's use the same converters. I agree the Vigilante is probably the best choice along with maybe the Pro Yank. I use an Edge if you want to go a little cheaper. It works well but is not as efficient on the big end as the Vigi or Yank. I used a converter from Oregon Transmissions that was only 130 bucks and worked great as an upgrade from the stock one. It stalled about 2500 and had lock up.

Re: Stall converter

Check out the supporting vendors of this site, many of them carry upgrade converters for your application. Precision Industries and Yank are a couple of the best.

Re: Stall converter

I run a "cheap" Midwest 3000 converter - cost me $485 shipped to my door. Same warranty as the more well knowns out there + 2 free restalls - again, like the big dogs offer.

Re: Stall converter

And that Midwest of Darkhorse's must be the magical peice still holding that stock tranny together week to week handling mid to high 400RWTQ numbers!

Not all, some 700R4's are 27 spline, you need the 30 spline ones that can fit both 700r4's and 4L60e's.

Re: Stall converter

I bought an Edge and I've been happy with it.

BTW...

ALL converters are "stall" converters in that they will eventually "stall" the engine as the fluid in them reaches a near solid state.

You want to say "Higher Stall" converter, which is understood to mean 'higher than stock'.

Obviously, this isn't an issue of earthshaking importance, but I thought you'd like to know, for future reference.

Re: Stall converter

10 years on my Vig 3600, no complaints...1.55 60's on radials. Whatever you decide on talk to the converter manufacturer to determine the appropriate stall speed for you combo.

Right. The 82-84 700's had 27 splines and should be highly avoided. I think most builders would agree that the 88 and up 700's are the ones to build. Thanks for the correction.
