SS Ram Air vs. K&N CAI
Installed my SLP intake today. Gave me enough power to throw me back in my seat a few times which lead to a mighty stomach ache
Dunno how much HP/T it added but I could feel the difference. I know with my 3" exhaust it's gonna be even better

The one thing about dyno numbers with these to intake setups that no one has mentioned yet is the SS setup is designed to be functional at speed not sitting still on a dyno. The only real way to know is at the track head to head, because that's when the SS air box will function as designed.
Also with K&N, Moroso, SLP etc unless you make an under car scoop to force air up to the filter you're not getting the full benefit of your CAI and at least with the SS setup no worries about standing water.

If you read my previous posts I thought to mention that the benefit of CAI is constant whereas the SS/Ram Air only works at speed and the CHP test showed engine heat reducing takeoff benefit on SS. Overall CAI was better in their head to head test.
CAI doesnt have to have a scoop really to benefit it. Being outside of engine heat area and in an area with a higher consentration of oxygen molecules is the key. This is the same basic priciple behind the throttle body coolant bypass and IAT relocation on 93 Z28s and T/As. Trying not to heat the incoming air much. That is also the idea behind Nitrous oxide. Increase pressure in the combustion chambers to make more power. John Lingenfelter used N2O once at Bonneville Salts to cool the fuel before it hit the chamber instead of spraying it in with fuel in a 3rd gen Trans Am that went 200+mph.

Great....
another 5 page SS Vs CAI argument....
You want the short version...
SS -
Prone to heat soak from sitting ontop of the engine along with all of it's ducting.
High Fluid dynamics losses due to 360* turn the air has to make and baffles in the hood to prevent rain entry...
CAI -
Less heat soak issues..
Less Fluid Losses due to only 1 or 2 90* turns depending on location of the filter.
No Baffling issue
The BEST intake setup:
De-baffled WS-6 intake with a Fernco coupler...
Almost ZERO restriction, almost ZERO heat soak, ZERO bends..
Hell, I can see INTO my TB with my airfilter removed from OUTSIDE the car...
OK??????

Just do a search man. There got to be a hundred threads/arguments/debated about this lol

I think the 96-97 Camaro SS & 98-02 WS6 are the best looking f-bodies to me! LS1 SS's are like mustangs at this point, everybody had one or have one(for a good reason POWER!!) And yes it's true that the WS6 hood scoop is the best design to date, cant beat straight air flow. just my .02
