SS Hood Vs CAIs?
SS Hood Vs CAIs?
I was wondering if anyone has any research about the difference or running the stock SS style ram air setup vs an aftermarket CAI setup. I mean I understand that the CAI setup has several advantages like less turns and wider diameter of tubing, however I see the use of a direct feed from the hood as a signifigant gain as well. Does anyone know of any technical data or just personal experience of using both the stock SS and CAI setup on which works better?
Thanks
P.S. I am talking performance not looks

I am no pro, but I can point you in the direction of a recent thread: http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...r+hood+and+CAI
This issue is dicussed, and a search might turn some things up too. I wonder the same thing but I figure your seeing about the gains from both, is it worth $900 over $160 for a possible few more horses? Make up for the few (possibly) lost with the $740 left over (Headers or Cam kit).
Just my observations after debating the same issue.

Sorry, I should have probably been a bit clearer. I am really curious because I already have the ss air setup, and am just curious if it's adventageous to spend the $$$ to get a CAI setup. Thanks for the link!
Ram air is a myth because it does not exist, for the following reasons:
- Air is incompressible at any automobile speed., meaning that the kinetic energy of the air cannot be used to compress the air and raise the static pressure.
- The “ram air” nozzles commonly employed on automobiles tend to be the wrong shape. A divergent nozzle is required for ram air. Straight-profile scoops cannot provide a ram air effect.
Select one of the two types of intakes, warm air, or cold air. Beyond that its just about looks.

Ah, I see what you mean now...well I'd say be one of the ones who knows the difference, go buy a $160 LPE CAI and let us know, Then if you dont like it, sell it on the forum, I am sure it will go fast, and If I have the money at the time, Ill take it.

1) I appreciate the feedback however I never asked about Ram Air having already read your scientific facts on a different post. I asked about different data specific or personal opinion on the SS style air setup vs an aftermarket CAI
2) "Select one of the two types of intakes, warm air, or cold air." seems like it would have to be a bit more than those choices as the CAI's have a different diameter and configuration than the stock SS setup which I would think does change the air flow, however there is SS hood which I doubt does nothing
