SS guys, any tricks to getting the SS airbox ti fit???

I bought a ss hood and airbox off a wrecked 30th SS, but i can't get the airbox to fit.

i attach it to the MAF, but it won't sit flush on the intake where you bolt it down?????? it just seems like it won't fit!!!

I got an aftermarket one with my hood and it didn't sit straight.
I drilled a hole and put a half inch bolt and nut through the side that was low and set it to a height so that the airbox sits level when bolted down.
An alternative would be to put it in an oven at 125-150 deg F, warming it up and then twisting it slightly over and allowing it to cool.

hate to say it but you wasted money on that thing you should have just spent the money on a k&n intake or something like that. they are proven to dyno more power than the crappy designed lt1 ss airbox

I would like to know where you saw this dyno at? I've had both and there was no noticable diff. in the two.

i too would like too see some proof that the ss air box's are "crappy" and if they are so "crappy" why would slp put them on there 330 hp LT4 car??? and all of their 96 and 97 SS's???

lets use some logic here, the slp box is shorter, wider and its smoother than most cai.

but to answer your question, ive heard people have had to bend some stuff out the way to get it in. just keep playin itll go!!

I have a K&N system right now, I bought the Hood and the airbox off the kid for $400 so i don't see how I WASTED any money at all

I would just prefer the functional hood and box, since i have the hood anyways

Turbulence plays a factor in why a CAI is better, I used to have it, didn't really like the design, had to get a special STB, but it's still good. Not a noticable difference, enjoy your setup.

I didn't feel any difference between a K&N CAI and the SS airbox.
Both are equally good.
Depends what you like style wise.

I had a K&N CAI and it had bends in it and a massive "pinch" right where it went around the radiator. I don't think a ram air set up is any more turbulent than the K&N set up. I think people that have had both agree there is no real diff in performance between the two set ups. If you want a ram air set up, get one. I love being able to say i have ram air. Plus now that i put TA style ram air decals on my hood scoop i think it attracts attention. I wish people on this board that don't have any experience or proof would not bad mouth products. They just go off of rumors they have heard.

When you say it doesn't look like it will fit thats to vague.
What is the problem more specifically.
There's 2 threaded holes on the intake that the airbox bolts to.
I had to add a hose to the AIR fitting to relocate something out of the way of the airbox. I can send you a pic of my setup if that will help.

Sorry about diverting your post i just hate false info on this board. The only problem i have with mine and my buddy with a 97 SS has the same problem is our air boxes turn to the side. The rubber intake elbow pushes on the box and makes it sit crooked. Thats the only problem i have. It doesn't sound like thats your problem. I've heard people with AIR systems still on have problems. I wouldnt know i dont have an AIR system. By the way you got a hell of a deal.

I actually just had this same problem.I had to beat the air system connection towards the brake lines to get it to fit.after that it sit perfectly. But the elbow will push on the intake and make it rotate counterclockwise. The best and I think only thing you can do is as someone said....drill a small hole in the airbox where the screw for the fuel rail should go through.

sorry paul i didn't mean the flame to be towards you i was just comparing the cai to the ram air set up. I was meaning the rest of the rant to ALL the guys on this board that claim the CAI is better over Ram Air and have no proof of it.
