squeak?.....help!!

Hi,

During cold starts, my car has this squeaking noise coming from the engine. It's not constant, but quick and repetative. Once the car is warm, it goes away. My mechanic is not sure what it is just by listening to it. Anyone know what this might be? I've been told it might be a water pump bearing, but why would it go away once it warms up? Any info would be great. Thanks

Check your serpentine belt. Mine is cracked and squeaks when it's cold. It goes away eventually though. The previous owner could have used some belt dressing on it too. Also if you have spilled antifreeze on it, the belt will squeak. Mine did for a few days hten went away. It's only there at start up but thats because i have a 12" long crack in my belt .

A test to see if it is the belt is ( I did this on my 84 monte many times last resort option) take a can of WD-40 and spray it on a cloth or if you trust yourself lightly spray the belt. If it goes away then there is your problem. This is just a suggestion and it is intended to just give you another option. Its up to you to try it.
