Angry LOUD Squeaking from belts....won't go away!!

****ing bull****!!! I'm never going to clean my ****ing engine bay ever ****ing again!!!

I used Engine Brite degreaser, cleaned my engine bay nicely....and now my serpentine belt squeaks sooooo ****ing loudly!!!!!! I can't ****ing believe this!!! This belt was quiet as can be for the entire time I've owned my car! And now, this belt is squeaking soo loud at all RPMs

And yeah, I used belt dressing. That stops the problem during idle, but as soon as I rev...BAM!!! Back to super squeaking, and it squeaks at idle too. My brother and I just keep spraying it on, but it won't go away!!!

I sound like I drive a complete POS ****bomb car! How do I get this belt to shut the **** up??? Even WITH the belt dressing, it keeps squeaking!

I am never degreasing my engine bay ever again!

it may be time for a new belt or you may have a bad asscery

but anyway a temp fix (i know this sounds nuts) is to put a very small dab of grease on the belt.

good luck

Eh, happend to me too. Got something wet...just drove it around for a while and sprayed some belt dressing too.

I seriously doubt cleaning your engine and getting a belt wet would call for a new belt.

It might go away...

Good luck bro.

Get a bar of soap and rub the inside of the belt with it. This will help give a bit of traction and stop the squeeking. It's an old trick but it works

I went to NAPA today and asked for their advice (I was buying some Seafoam ), the guy said to "use some brake cleaner on the belt, that will get the dirt and grease off and will dry quickly". So I did....and it still squeaks.

Then, I thought, "It might be a pulley itself". So I listened closely, and sprayed my power steering pully down with WD-40. The squeaking stops! Then I shut the car down, and when it cools, it squeaks again.

I guess I am going to have to take off my pulley and regrease it or something? WD-40 wears off quickly, but I have some thicker grease I can use. Any tips on how to remove a PS pulley?

Thanks for all of your help....hopefully the pulley is the problem.

Yeah brake cleaner will do it, as will WD40. This may sound wild, cause people think of WD40 as a lubricant, but it is actually more of a solvevent. This is why it only stops squeaks temporarily. However, the brake cleaner should do the trick.

You can also attempt to remove the dressing from the belt with a rag with or with out the engine running. If it is running use extreme caution, to avoid an unecessary trip to the emergency room.

twist it see if its cracked if it is replace it.

I would personally hose it down, then jsut drive it around, let the engine bay heat up and keep the belts moving,t he water will get msot stuff off and jsut needs to dry up.

If not ten get a new belt.

hehe you guys never drive through deep enough puddles that your engine dips in the water do you?

Problem solved!!

Bought a new belt and the squeak went away!

Kind of weird though, since the WD-40 being sprayed on the pulley stopped the squeak, I thought it was the pulley all this time. The belt was craked though.

Next time, I will just remove the belt, then spray degreaser on.

Thanks everyone!
