Unhappy spraying power steering fluid

I need some help. I was driving to work today and lost my power steering. When I got to where I was going I opened the hood to check the fluid level and noticed there was fluid all over the engine compartment. I made it home and bought some fluid on the way since I was empty. I filled the resevior half way and started the truck. It was pissing fluid out the vent hole on the resevior and emptied itself out again. I know its a truck but the thing is that I did an engine swap and put a LT1 in my chevy pickup. I have bought a power steering pump and resevior from streetlegal performance. I have been driving it for about a year with no problems until now. I appreciate any help you can give.

Re: spraying power steering fluid

If you are saying it is suddenly pressurizing the reservoir and forcing fluid out the cap, I would say there is something wrong with the pump.

Yes that seems to be what it is doing. It is building alot of pressure since when I tried to fill it less than half full it still managed to build enough pressure to blow it completely out the vent hole. There was alot of squeeling going on before this happened even though all belts were as tight as they could be and the fluid was filled.
