spohn torque arm and lowered...

Who has a Spohn torque arm for the full-length headers and their car is lowered? Spohns' torque arm for full length headers drops lower at the tunnel brace than their design for factory exhaust. My car has Eibach pro-kit springs on it and since I installed my FLP headers ground clearance has been an issue. Does any one who has this set-up wish they got the other design due to ground clearance being worse? Right now I use a couple of washer to drop the factory tunnel brace and that works OK, so I wonder if I should get their t/a designed for factory exhaust and just use the washers???
What do you think?

I just ordered the Spohn TA, and my car is lowered with the prokit and has FLP's as well. I think by putting washers under the regular exhaust TA you will mess up the angle the TA is suppose to be at. Have you changed your motor mounts yet? My car was scrapping over everything before I did my headers. I changed the motor mounts at the same time as I did the headers and I have better ground clearance now, than I did with stock exhaust.

No problem with the engine mounts yet. The ground clearance was no problem before the headers. I guess you ordered the t/a for the full length headers? Either one should be adjustable to get the pinion angle you want so that shouldnt be a problem. I just dont know if a new cat-back will need the extra room and I've heard that our y-pipe to i-pipe could really use some improvement to more of a collector type design. But it dont mean jack if it scrapes everywhere.
Where is your minimum ground clearance now? Mine is at the drivers side header/orp. and that side of the y-pipe hang down a little.

That is about where mine is. I just dont like the idea of adding washers to the front of the TA mount, I know it's adjustable but it is the back that adjusts. By moving the front around, I would think it would throw off the suspension geometry. Maybe somebody else can chime in who knows a bit more about it.

If your is lowered more than an inch, I would not recommend installing the Spohn LT header Torque Arm. I have their standard LT1 TA, which reduced my ground clearance by about 1.25" and this only gives me about 3.5" to 4" of ground clearance. I think that the LT version reduces the ground clearance by almost another full inch. My car rides at 26.0" front and 26.25" rear floor to fender peak (1994 Z28 M6).

Oh, with an adjustable TA, the point of mounting the front mount is not as critical as the resultant pinion angle.

I have their standard LT1 TA, which reduced my ground clearance by about 1.25"
So you lost 1.25" from the factor stamped steel crossmember to the spohn standard LT1 t/a. I already asked spohn and you lose another 1.3" with the LT header design.
Thats a total 2.55" loss of ground clearance. That sounds like alot for a car thats already lowered.

Steve Spohn told me the following reduced ground clearance numbers:

Std LT1: 1 3/8"

Long Tube: 2 1/2"

The Standard 1 3/8" works out to be about the same clearance as the KBDD subframe connectors (just slightly lower).

The Long Tube is NOT OK.

This is what ground clearance is like on my car with a spohn torque arm. My car is not lowered.

Your Spohn TA looks like the old style. The new style for LT headers has a hump in it, not a flat lowered bar. Looks like your ground clearance is over 4" though.

The torque arm was built a year ago. Its the heavy duty version (solid steel bushing, no slider) designed for the 4" mufflex y-pipe. Is there a newer version?

To Grease

The slider was the old design, but the new Long Tube header design has a hump to clear the exhaust in lieu of the lowered flat bar. It looks like your tunnel brace is lower than the standard LT1 torque arm mount. I could be reading your photo wrong.

I thiink I'll go with the stadard design and deal with the aftermarket cat-back when I get that. Right now I have the KBB DD sub-cons and thats as low as I want to go.
Thanks for the replys.
