spinning the tires in 1st
spinning the tires in 1st
i read a thread earlier today about people with lt1s not being able to spin the tires from a 10-15 mph roll. i have never had a problem doing this, and was rather shocked to read that for so many it is just the opposite. my tires are new, the dealer put them on before i bought the car. factory wheels with 235s...obviously they were doing it on a budget...like every other dealer. would the difference in tire size make that big of a difference? its not just a little spin, the car tends to get a little bit sideways when i hammer on it. as far as i know, the car has slp intake and exhaust. does this sound about right?
Re: spinning the tires in 1st
when my car was running i was able to spin away pretty much every where. even just in second gear if i popped the clutch pretty good. in first gear my car would just need has anywhere and they would spin
Re: spinning the tires in 1st
I think it matters on a whole lot of things such as if your an A4 or M6 car, what gears do you have 2.73, 3.23, 3.42...etc. How sticky and how wide your tires are.....road conditions and a bunch of other variables. Obviously and M6 car will spin em much easier, because they have the gearing advantage. I would say with my 2.73 gears and stock tires from a 15 mph punch my tires wouldnt spin, they would just hook and go. I just got my 3.73 gears installed today and have yet to break em in, so I wont know if that has changed or not....but I'm guessing it will. And I will also add that many people lose a little low end torque with the addition of longtubes.....which could also cause them not to spin so much. Moral of the story- Every car is different and have different mods under different circumstances, so you really cant judge it. Personally I hate spinning my tires.....that is why I am buying some Nittos for the street and M/t drag radials for the track.
Re: spinning the tires in 1st
its prolly gear ratio too, the car ive got now has 2.73, i just checked the rpo's of my old car and it has the 3.23- thank god since i still have the rear from it. My car now dosen't spin the tires too much, needless to say it will be getting the old rear end in it soon, and ill see how much a diff it makes.

Re: spinning the tires in 1st
When I had cheap tires I could downshift at 50 and spin them, it was scary to be honest, it caught me off gaurd. I invested in the wheels and tires in my sig, and its actually difficult to spin the tires, but thats all going to change when the TC gets here
