Talking Spec stage 3 aggressive? Um no!

Omg whoever says the Spec stage 3 is aggressive needs to just get an auto. I just drove my Z that I just finished putting the clutch in. I have put 60 miles on it and it was beautiful. Ill admit there can be a little chatter but if you know how to drive a manual you won't get much of any. This is like the guys who say the cc306 is too aggressive for the street, they just need to buy a honda civic. Anyione who is weary of what people have said about chatter with the stage 3, dont worry....its nothing. I may post the video of the first 5 miles with the new clutch later(im pretty lazy right now and I have alot more driving to do ).

Kevlar one is supposed to suck big time, carbon is good, but I agree with you, cc306 is nothing, I don't find anything unstreetable with it so I dunno, you're right, some people just really need a honda

Yeah I forgot to specify material, Im running the carbon. Kevlar is for my vest, not my clutch

I'm right with you guys on what some people call "streetable"! Talking to some people, they basically say they want a 6000hp car, have it smooth as a Lexus, and handle like an Indycar... So they whine and moan when a cam has ANY lope on low end while driving and say it's impossible for daily driving...

"It stutters around 2k!!!"
"The clutch is too stiff and sensitive!!! WAHHH!!!"

And if you have REAL heavy "New York" style traffic, buy a freakin 500$ beater to go to work in...

If not go trade it in for a Honda, jeez.

The only reason why I didn't go with a steeper cam myself is I wasn't sure if my 120k mile old stock bottom end could take 6800 rpm blasts... But that's all soon going to change with my new shortblock I'm putting together. Oh yeah, for my.... "Daily Driver"

Pretty nice coincidence because I just put my new Stage III with the ceramic disk and aluminum FW in yesterday as well and I couldn't believe how nice it felt!

I think the reason so many people were bitching before was that SPEC has changed the design somewhat. I had the same clutch before but bought it 2 years ago. Both the clutch disk and the PP look different in this new one.

The old one was NOT very street friendly and chattered quite badly in the low rpm ranges. That made it very uncomfortable to drive in traffic.

Now, I have only put 30 miles on this one and haven't driven in stop and go freeway traffic yet but the early results are very promising.

I would also like to post how pleased I was with SPEC's customer service . I've read unflattering comments about them but it was NOT my experience. My first unit from them was 2 years old but only had 10,000 miles and maybe 12 passes but it failed. I pulled it out and the disk material was completely gone and the FW and PP surfaces were destroyed. I sent the whole thing to them and they sent me a whole new setup for $199. Actually, they replaced the insert in my aluminum FW but sent the new, redsigned 6 puck (the old one was full round with 4 ceramic pads per side) ceramic disk and a new PP. I call that great customer service!

Anyway, FYI and YMMV. Hope we both are signing the same tune down the road. I can't wait to get through the break-in period and take this sucker WOT. Only 400 miles to go.

I drove the Stage 2 kevlar. I don't care what you guys say, that thing SUCKED to drive. This was the 4 puck design. Put in an SLP clutch - smooth as butter, holds my 396 w/o issue.

Funny you should say that because I dont think I have ever really put my Z up at 6800rpm (I have the cc306). Im not really sure why but I just really havent, a little concerned like you I guess. But hey reving to 6000rpm it has helluva power.

Could you be more specific about why you didnt like it or did it literally give you a bj?

Chatter was unbearable. I had to take off like immediately to not chatter. Reverse was just nuts. I don't believe in revving to 3K and slipping it to not make it chatter like all the "tough guys" here probably do with their 240/250 110 cams and Stage 3 Ceramics.

When I had my clutch installed (stage III carbon) the mechanic at the dealership decided it would be a good idea to go and lay 40ft of rubber with the new clutch. (read* he's a ********) It never got a proper break in. Once in my control, I drove under 3000rpm for about 800km. This thing has its good days (no chatter, really smooth) and its bad days (chatters and really grabby) But it NEVER slips! Im happy with it. I think I need a better flywheel to get the most out of this clutch. I was told that when I had my flywheel machined, it might be a little agressive for the clutch. (rough machining)
Good buy IMHO

Well all I can say is that either they are getting better at manufacturing the Spec Stage III Carbon or there are production variations. I installed mine 3 weeks ago when I installed my new stroker and it chattered awfull. It has 430 mile on it now and it is improving.

I know experiences here differ but I doubt anyone here could have driven my car with this clutch and not think this clutch chattered. I had to engage the clutch @ over 3000 just so my drive line would not buck. I seriously thought I was going to break something.

To be fair the clutch has smoothed out considerably but we're not out of the woods yet. Givien its current break in rate I beleive this clutch will be daily drivable by 1000 miles

Im about to order a new clutch and I cant decide which one I want. I will be making about 335RWHP and with the 100shot around 435RWHP. They say the Spec Stage II can hold around 500RWHP so thats what I will probably go with. Anyone have any other ideas or places to get a good clutch for cheap. This is and everyday driver too. I know some clutches werent really meant for street use!

Don't you just love it when techs do crap like that? I took mine in for an alignment and I told them the clutch slips so don't romp it. When I went to pick it up later that day, the jacka$$ told me "boy, your clutch is shot, I couldn't even break the tires loose!" It's like gee, don't they say in the instructions NOT to use the clutch hard until after the break in period?
